exactly! my usual process is to start with a thumbnail on paper, refine and clean that up in clip studio, then once i'm happy with the lineart i scale it down to the final pixel size, trace over it and color/detail. here's some examples of what my lineart looks like before i start pixeling.

Well this leaves me having to re-assess how I go about approaching this. I figured doing a pixel illustration would skip this as a step, since I am basically uninitiated. That's me being humbled. Thank you again. Looks like I have some elementary illustration to learn.
