An email message reads: Hi [SEASON TICKET REP], I'm not sure who the right person is to share feedback with regarding theme nights, but I'm hoping that you might be able to either put me in touch with, or forward my thoughts onto them. June 1st is generally recognized as the beginning of Pride month amongst the LGBTQ+ community -- though Rochester tends to celebrate in July, so as not to conflict with demonstrations in larger New York metro areas such as NYC and Buffalo. It's also well-understood that the leaders of most major faiths (including Catholicism) preach that queerness is immoral. Certainly not all people of faith agree with such notions. But the optics involved with scheduling Catholic School Day on the first day of Pride month, whilst relegating Pride Night to September 9th -- a date that is neither part of traditional Pride month, nor Rochester's Pride celebration -- are not good. Knowing the Red Wings' history, I'm certain that this wasn't an intentional slight by the folks who organize theme nights. Y'all have been genuinely fantastic about Pride since you started celebrating it. But it's a choice whose optics leave members of the queer community feeling left out in the cold -- particularly given the fact that the 9/9 celebration can't be rescheduled in the event of a rainout. To be clear, I want the Wings to continue to celebrate Catholic schools. This is Rochester *COMMUNITY* Baseball, and I strongly believe that *all* members of our community deserve to be recognized, celebrated, and respected. But the relative scheduling of these two events leaves one community feeling less respected than they ought to. I appreciate you listening to my concerns, and hope that scheduling for future celebrations leaves all communities feeling recognized and heard. Thank you, and Go Wings! - [RANDOM ENCOUNTER]
