A color satellite imagery of two Himalayan villages buried under a debris flow. The event took place on August 5th. For comparision, the village as it stood on August 4 is shown on the left. Almost the entire village is buried under what is being reported a three story high blanket of mud and boulders.

Deformation in the footwall of Munisiyari Thrust which places Paleoproterozoic gneiss over Neoproterozoic Lesser Himalaya. Location. Munsiyari town baazaar road towards petrol pump, Uttarakhand, India.
Photomicrograph in PPL shows a transverse section of a crinoid stem from Late Ordovician limestone from Georgia, U.S.A. There is a ferroan calcite cement filling the pore spaces. Calcite is stained blue with potassium ferricyanide. Texture is a packstone with grain to grain contact.
Photomicrograph between crossed nicols shows a texturally and mineralogically mature quartz arenite. Detrital quartz grains are well rounded with low birefringence colors. Pore spaces are filled with euhedral quartz overgrowth cement. Neoproterozoic, Cuddapah Basin, South India. FOV ~1.5 mm.

Photomicrograph under crossed nicols of a oolitic limestone. Texture is a well sorted grainstone, with interparticle pore spaces filled with calcite cement. The prominent ooid at the centre has a foraminifera as the nucleus, coated with concentric layers of calcite.
Photomicrograph in crossed nicols shows authigenic clay forming from the alteration of a microcline feldspar detrital grain in sandstone. Alteration is along the margins and cracks in the grain. Microcline has low birefingence while the clay particles have high birefingence. The feldspar grain is about 1 mm across. Sample is Neoproterozic age from Cuddapah Basin, South India.

Flora was severely impacted during active volcanic stages (Panel 1 and Panel 5). In post and dormant volcanic stage a floral recovery took place (Panel 2 and 3). precursor volcanic stage again saw a deterioration of flora (panel 4).
