BCCDC PPE assessment tool which includes an item asking whether one's "eyes or face could be splashed with blood or bodily fluids", or if one could be within "2 meters of a patient who is coughing, sneezing or vomiting" and recommends droplet precautions like masks and face shields. Another item asks whether there's "increased airborne transmission risk" (eg. COVID patient requiring an aerosol-generating medical procedure" -- if so, only then are aerosol precautions like N95 respirators recommended.
