"Gonna start with the head. I always start off with very loose lines. They are easy to draw over later with more firm lineart. But starting with the head is a good way to find the balance of proportions as you get working on the body. Just start simple, a circle with a couple of help lines (the cross acriss the face) to help place facial features." "A lot of my style today all comes from a lot of practicing, there’s no easy way around that fact. Internalizing all the tips and tricks that work for you and you won’t need to add in as many helping lines to keep proportions, as things become more natural to your hand. Depending on the style you are going for, there are simple rules to help you keep proportions and know how to give a sense of balance to the different bodyparts. A body is a certain number of heads tall, depending on the style you use. My heads tend to be a bit on the large side, as I take a lot of inspiration from comics and cartoon. More realistic proportions would have a smaller head, but the body more heads taller than in the way I tend to draw. Things I’ve noticed by observing myself in a mirror is for an example how your arm’s length from the shoulder to the elbow typically matches the length of your torso to your hip. And your lower arm from elbow to palm matches that length too. Your feet’s length typically matches the length of your lower arm. Your whole arm left resting down your side, your hand goes to the middle of your thigh. Your full hand as long as your face is tall. Just little things I’ve used over the years to help figure out proportions in anatomy. Don’t be shy from adding the helping lines you need to keep things together as you work through the anatomy. Loose lines saves on your sanity. The first line never gonna be perfect, work with the knowledge these lines you are putting down are going to be erased anyway. They make for easy changing, correction and erasing. Work with focus on the body itself before you worry about clothing"
