Instead of including a full set of kanji characters in the built-in system fonts (and not having any memory left for games) we allow games to use their own fonts for custom menu items and other places where game-provided text is displayed by the system (currently only in permissions alerts where games optionally explain why they’re asking for access to networking or the microphone). These are specified with two new options in the game’s pdxinfo file: menuTitleFont and menuMessageFont. The title font is used for action and checkmark menu items and the left side of options items. The message font is used for the right (current option) side of options menu items and for the explanation text in permission request dialogs. The corresponding system fonts are Roobert-20-Medium and Roobert-11-Medium. The font location can be within the game pdx folder, or one of the fonts in /System/Fonts; note that the extended versions of those fonts have complete hiragana and katakana alphabets and a large number of kanji characters.
