Mother Shipton’s Cave in Knaresborough is linked to England’s legendary 16th-century prophetess, Ursula Southeil, whose predictions have become part of local folklore. Nearby, the famous Petrifying Well appears to turn everyday objects to stone as mineral-rich water coats them with limestone over time—one of Yorkshire’s most remarkable natural curiosities. You can hang things up in the waterfall that flows down from the cave and over the years the calcium deposits solidify them into stone.

The Flying Sorcerers by Niven and Gerrold. I can’t remember the plot now but it’s hugely enjoyable. I seem to remember that stranded Earth spacemen land on a planet of friendly furry aliens and then re-invent the bicycle and many other things, which to the more primitive culture seems like magic.
