I lost my cat recently and found myself reaching for Byung-Chul Han’s “Vita Contemplativa” to help me process. “The Burnout Society” showed me how I was grinding myself down - that voice demanding constant achievement, turning rest into a task to optimize. “Vita Contemplativa” was my remedy. (1 →)

Han calls it “inactivity” but it’s really reclaiming your inner life. It’s been a lifeline. Sometimes the most radical thing in a world obsessed with doing is simply stopping. Feeling what you’re feeling. Being human, not just doing. (←3.)

I realized I’d been running from stillness. Instead of staying busy to “process” loss productively, I let myself sit with the sadness. This carried me through major disruptions that sent me scrambling for control. Instead of treating challenges as problems to optimize, I accepted uncertainty. (2 →)
