ok broadly since technically all of them are meant to be an entry point and you can start anywhere, the simplest answer to this question is “start with whichever one intrigues you personally the most.” but in general it kind of depends on what interests you about patho to begin with. if you don’t know that much about it and are just vaguely intrigued by the vibes/characters etc i’d probably recommend starting with 2. if you feel like you “get” what patho is about and are specifically intrigued by the weirdness and up for a challenge and want to dive in head first there’s no real reason not to start with 1. p1 is basically completely unique and as masterfully as i think 2 and 3 translate a lot of the friction and strangeness of 1 and make it more modern and intentional, there’s still a certain aura to 1 that is just not replicable. it’s also the most (only) complete version of the story and there are plot lines/character arcs etc that exist in 1 and nowhere else, so 2 and 3 are definitely not “replacements” for 1. also a lot of its reputation for misery is unfair, it’s difficult and hostile yes but it’s absolutely playable especially with guides and communities etc, so a lot of fans are frustrated by people being scared off of it when it isn’t really all that bad. BUT the anti-gatekeeper in me just can’t deal with assertions that you can’t start with 2 or that you’re a fake fan if you do or whatever. it’s much more accessible in that it’s an infinitely more polished and playable game while (i think) preserving the spirit of 1 and even improving on it in some ways. 2 is a beautiful game and it stands on its own and there’s no reason you couldn’t go back and play 1 later if you’re moved to. that’s what i did! 3 is a whole different can of worms and you can technically start there too and some people say it might be the best place to start but i don’t really have my thoughts on that sorted yet… anyway bows and backs quickly off of the stage
