A single red rose bloom. The rose has a unique bright red color and almost appears to have a florescent undertone. While this rose is supposed to be relatively disease resistant, there is a small bit of powdery mildew on the leaves which is likely a result of our inconsistent weather that has been rapidly transitioning from rainy low 50s F to hot high 80s/low 90s F.

Over 100 healthy marigold seedlings grow in four black 6" garden containers. They are ready to be transplanted into the garden.
Let's begin the story of this garden at the half barrel that is centered on the white arch. The barrel holds a red hybrid tea rose called 'Eleganza Grande Amore'. I placed a red "forever" rose that was preserved in a glass dome into my mother's hands before she was buried. I tried to find a rose that matched that rose as close as possible and ended up choosing 'Eleganza Grande Amore' to be the focus of this garden in her memory. My husband and daughter took me to the Northwest Flower and Garden Show on the first anniversary of my Mother's passing. The visit was a good distraction. At that show, I won a $500 gift card from Gardener’s Supply Company. I ordered the white arch with that gift card, cementing that first anniversary, and the arch, into the memory of my mother. The roses climbing the white arch are called ‘Eden’. The flower is pink. A creamy apricot rose called ‘Eleganza Oh Happy Day’ is planted near the arch in front of one of the ‘Eden’ roses. I planted that rose in memory of many happy days I spent with my mother. There's a blush rose called ‘Moonlight in Paris’ in front of the other ‘Eden’ climbing rose. My mother would have loved the soft tones of ‘Moonlight in Paris’. Another rose in this garden, that my mother would have loved, is called ‘Emily Bronte’. It has a cream flower full of petals. A pale pink rose called ‘Scepter’d Isle’ sits across from ‘Emily Bronte’. It echoes the color of ‘Eden’. Two ‘Peace’ roses (not visible in the photo) grow closest to my chair on the front porch. There are two climbing roses growing on the short white fence, blocking the view of this garden from the road. My favorite is ‘Lady of Shallot', but the other climber ‘A Generous Gardener' is a close second. ‘Lady of Shallot' blooms earlier and is a prolific bloomer, that is why she gets the top spot. There are four 3’x8’ metal raised beds in this garden and I grow a mix of annual flowers and perennials in these beds. The plantings are different each year.
