Digital needs some kind of key that keeps physical's "I own a licensed copy of the copyrighted work" that can't be revoked!

We need more than just that - If say Epic Games went under, what happens to the Epic Storefront? How do people download copies of their games in the future? Access patches on old games? Multiplayer servers? This needs baseline infrastructure establishing which is not reliant on any single company.
