"The Irate Gamer was one of many copycat YouTubers wanting to emulate the "angry reviewer" trope. Unlike every other angry reviewer at the time—the AVGN included—he was actually sponsored by YouTube, meaning he became far more prolific than any of the other wannabes. That didn't mean he was good; on the contrary, he was comically bad when he wasn't outright plagiarizing the Nerd. However, he distinguished himself even further because he stuck around all this time (he "retired" the character this year, but he's done that like twice already so we'll see). Despite having literal decades of experience under his belt by now, his scriptwriting never got any better, and any enjoyment from his content is either strictly ironic or out of pity (large overlap between the two). Nowadays, he's unambiguously a grifter, but he's also comically bad at that schtick so I don't feel bad for ironically putting a spotlight on him because there's not a chance he'll actually sucker anyone in.
