She whispered a thank you (maybe?) and she remembers sort of humming her grateful joy as he squeezed her too hard. She laughed a little, the sound felt tinny and desperate to her ears, that crazy laugh that’s almost a sob, But she took a deep breath and pulled back to look at him and ground herself before she allowed the relief of reuniting with her son cloud her judgment, confuse the issue and push her over a precipice she’s abandoned plenty of times if she's honest with herself about HIM (and that’s still new, too…TOO new) (so new it makes her heart flutter somewhere between butterflies and panic). She remembers touching his face, his shoulders, then pulling away to get a grip on her soul before it slipped out though her lips on a sigh. He let her go gracefully, his eyes shining, shining like they only ever did in sideways glances back when.
