Except that isn't true (at least for the US, not sure about other places). Real (i.e. inflation adjusted) income is up for both the median person and household. Even looking at workers with no college education, they're not really any worse off than they were 20 years ago in inflation adjusted terms

In the US inflation has outpaced wage growth. Prices up 26% vs 2019, wages 23%.
