This term is derived from the Greek root words for Synthetic “Suntithenai” or “Synth (place together) and “Anthropos” (Human) to form a new, more compassionate name. It is specifically meant to replace both “Android” and “Gynoid” to escape sexist connotations of the later, as well as to move beyond the problematic etymology of the word “Robot” which comes from the Czech word “Robota” (“forced labor”, serf, slave) “Volosynth” Short for Volosunthrope - “Free-Willed Constructed Human” A variation of Sunthrope designated to units that have been granted or observed to naturally exhibit free will or voluntary acts. Adds the prefix “Volo” (Medieval Latin: “I Wish”). Known colloquially as “Volosynths” for short.
