Solstice in the supermarket; somewhere between the city and the sea, 3.03pm: no one is silent or still in remembrance of the sun, but the brilliance of the strip lights that shine across the persimmons hits my eyes like a theft aainst the gloom of the afternoon. As I return home the clouds eclipse the top of the three high rises that haunt the horizon. In an hour there may be darkness but from now on it will begin to get light.
