King’s College Centre for Society and Mental Health Sharing your Experiences to Improve the Benefits System We Would Like To Invite You To Take Part In A Major International Research Project What is the research about? We are comparing the experience of claiming benefits in five countries (UK, Norway, Spain, Hungary and Estonia) to understand what makes a benefits system better. Most research looks at things like poverty and work, but we’re also focusing on how benefits affect dignity, security, and fairness. The goal is to improve benefits systems in the UK and beyond by sharing real experiences from people who claim benefits. We’re interviewing 100 people from the five countries over the next year. Who is doing the research? The research is funded by the UK’s major research council (UKRI), and is being conducted by independent researchers from King’s College London, Oslo Metropolitan University (Norway), Centre for Social Sciences (Hungary), Complutense University How do I take part? If you take part in the project, you will engage in two activities over six months: 1. An interview where you will be asked about your life history more broadly, including your history in claiming benefits. 2. Following this, and for a six-month period, you will contact us directly after any interaction you have with the welfare system. We will follow up some of these messages by arranging a short, individual follow-up digital or phone interview. Will I get paid? To thank you for your time involved in the project, we will provide you with a series of gift vouchers throughout the project, a total of £175. Want more information?
