When you try to walk straight into a wall, you will notice with cl_showpos 1 or 2 that there is still a tiny gap between you and the wall, that gap is exactly 0.03125 units and it exists as a hack for an ancient Source networking thing where clients would receive imprecise numbers from the server which could cause players to be placed inside walls (that is no longer a thing on newer Source versions but the wall extension hack still exists) However, this extension is only applied if the trace used to determine collision assesses that you would touch the non-extended surface, meaning that if you are able to get the trace's end position within that 0.03125 unit gap, the game will allow you to be moved there, and the easiest way to do that is by wiggling which allows you to move towards the wall by very small amounts which is enough for you to then be considered inside the wall and get stuck
