QUESTION 25, 26 & 27: Helen Hughes Question 25 - Can committee members lead by example I would like to repeat an earlier question to which I received an unsatisfactory answer. It is addressed to all councillors on the Transport and Connectivity Committee as individuals. In the name of leading by example, will each of you who drives a car give it up and stop driving altogether, and instead walk, cycle or take buses for every single journey you make, in order to show how strongly you agree with or believe the following: • that cars are unsustainable in Bristol • that you are so concerned about disease and deaths from air pollution that you will take personal responsibility to reduce their risk • that you wish never to risk harming any pedestrians and cyclists through potential traffic accidents caused by you as a driver? To earn the respect and trust of those you are accountable to, you must be prepared yourselves to do what you expect of them, and with full conviction. Officer response: Thank you for your question. Public Forum questions are addressed to the committee chair not the whole committee and as such only the chair can respond, with support from officers. We seek to promote sustainable modes to ensure that the city’s transport network can function well despite the limited road space and increasing population. We do not expect anyone to do all their trips by sustainable modes but we do encourage everyone in the city to consider how they take each trip and how that choice impacts others in the city and I personally undertake none of my trips related to my work through single occupancy car use.

CS08 Member Forum statement from Cllr Patrick McAllister Subject: AI Images on X The events on X over the last few weeks have been horrifying. An AI tool used to denigrate and sexualise unconsenting women and girls - including children. The resulting images strewn about in the public realm for all to see. And the site’s owner, a man who has previously tried to incite a violent overthrow of the elected UK government, is unrepentant and laughing. His response to this scandal was to paywall the ability to use his site’s AI image generation - explicitly making money from people wanting to make child sexual abuse material. Colleagues, it is long past time that we started considering use of X to be socially unacceptable. As politicians we can lead the way. If the UK Government came off of X tomorrow and joined an alternative platform, every journalist and business in the country would follow them overnight. The insidious influence of this platform would be greatly reduced and I imagine that the quality of our public discourse would improve. I urge everyone in this room to encourage their colleagues, their parties, their government, to make the move away from X. If the site’s official tool generating CSAM is not the line, I don’t know what is.
