The salt-cured meat stung the inside of her cheeks. Her throat was raw with thirst. The journey only got worse from there. Her head started throbbing and her mouth felt drier than parchment. The scratch on her neck burned, and at some point, it had started bleeding again. And through all of it, there was the heat. The intolerable, inescapable fire was cooking her alive.

Healers habitually practiced the light magic spell during funerals and when moving a family into their new home. Zelnor had observed the practice once. The ability to heal would have been useful considering how frequently she found herself in danger. She wasn’t confident, but she was willing to try again.
