The air is wet and refreshingly chilled, settling into my bones in a way that’s comforting in its familiarity. Within moments, I’m past my cottage and surrounded by old growth forest. Twisted roots and damp earth and mushrooms. I like being out here among the wood rot, the bugs and the moss. There are no expertly cultivated blooms like the ones in Thistlewood’s gardens. Wild ferns and stubborn seedlings pepper the forest floor. Lichen clings to the trees and a thin layer of natural decay blankets the ground. Nothing is perfect and it’s all beautiful anyway."
