I fixed my Ensoniq SQR a couple of weeks ago, replaced the battery with a holder and cr2032, desoldered the ESP's SRAM, installed sockets and installed new SRAM into those sockets. I didn't know if that would fix it but it did, my theory of crackling caused by bad ram was right.

I should mention, I already had someone look at it previously. He couldn't find anything wrong with it. So I spent £200 for a half working synth, £80 with an electrician who specialised in audio gear, then finally...£15 for the components to fix it myself lol Goes to show, gut feeling can work..

I didn't know you were so handy with electronics! I should send you my PC...one of the HDMI ports is busted and I can't use my second monitor :/
