Ozone is also in the high moderate range this afternoon. Significant improvements in air quality are expected over the next 24 hours with showers and a thunderstorm expected Saturday as a cold front affects the region. *** Saturday’s forecast: While PM2.5 levels start the day elevated, concentrations will be decreasing by afternoon with showers and thunderstorms expected and winds turning southwesterly out ahead of a cool front. Ozone will be limited to the good range with cloud cover and expected precipitation. Morning PM2.5 might still be in the code RED (unhealthy) range, but concentrations drop to acceptable levels during the afternoon. Therefore, the daily PM2.5 average will fall to the high moderate range. *** Sunday’s forecast: Hazy sunshine is expected on Sunday as winds turn back into the north and northwest in the wake of the cold front. This level is common in tropical and subtropical regions during peak hours and requires maximum protection. UV 9 occurs at midday in tropical destinations, at altitude in subtropical areas, and during peak summer in Mediterranean climates. It is a level that most travellers from higher latitudes are not acclimatised to.
