For the last few years I’ve struggled with the fact that time as my pseudonym, Rory Michaelson, felt much better than my life as [NAME]. It brought me freedom to really be myself, and felt less like putting on a costume and more like taking one off. Going into 2026, the answer feels strangely simple. I'm just going to be Rory Michaelson all the time, the time I have to spend as [NAME] is the costume.

I've gotten braver and bolder, Going from working my own way to share my stories to finding a literary agent and going on submission to publishers. It's scary and new, but I'm doing it, so it feels like I’ve already won. Being more me can feel more vulnerable and it’s been hard, but it’s where I must tread to become the most complete version of myself. I'm so lucky that I've made so many friends and supporters. I don't really have that in my offline life and it still feels surreal that I'm here.”

I learned that I was autistic and started to see how that changed everything I'd been through up until this point through a new lens I never knew. I became more open about my mental health, more willing to face rejection, and I began to feel like my stories connected me with other people in a way I'd struggled with before. and I needed to experience that more.”
