He slid to the floor and crumpled in a heap under a pile of broken wood and books. Blood pooled out of him, ruining the vampire's precious tomes. A furious grunt sprang from her pissed off lips. It had been a night and she'd had enough of this shit. "Why can't people just leave me alone?"
Text that reads Once Dorgan left, Lucretia got to work blocking out the window to ensure no sunlight trespassed into the room. "You could've warmed me that I had to play a simpering damsel to the Innkeep!" "I didn't plan it. I had to tell him something and it was the first thing that came to mind. Although if you'd prefer, we can go and tell him the truth."

Had he heard a noise at the door? He waited and heard it once more. Not from the door. From the window. Tap, t-tap. He was two floors from the ground. He rose from his sheets and uncertainly checked the window.
He strode over to her wildflowers and plucked a poppy that matched her crimson eyes. With a shaky smile he turned to her and tucked it behind her ear under her long flowing hair. "I know we can't be together, Lu." She closed her eyes and nodded but Loren wasn't finished. "Let's just enjoy what time we have."
Black text which reads; "Time to go, Handsome!" she said with a wink to the baffled hunter. "What? Wait... aren't you going to finish her?" "Why would I?" "She might come after us!" "The upcoming dawn is a bigger problem to me. Especially with a distinct lack of castle to rest in. I've got to get out of here and get to safety before the sun's up, so I'm not going to finish her but hey... be my guest if you want to. I'm out of here!" She set off, passing through the destroyed door of the library and headed downstairs. Shortly after, Loren caught up. "Well, did you kill her?" "No," he said, thoughtfully. "I couldn't. I never thought I would learn about mercy and restraint from a vampire." "Ha! You're just full of surprises, aren't you? If I can overcome my monstrous nature, maybe you can too." "Is that warmth in your voice?" "Don't read too much into it. We have to hurry." "Alright. What's next?" "We're going to need transport. Let's get to the stables." They slipped out through a side entrance into a narrow stone walkway. Lucretia sped forward checking for threats and then beckoned Loren to follow. She crossed a paved courtyard over to the stables. The assault on the castle continued behind her. Once inside, she readied two black Friesian horses for travel. "Can your ready a cart?" She asked Loren. He nodded and got to work preparing the horses.

Harriet, with her ashy brown hair scraped back, wearing a gray tailored suit glared at the errant vampire. "What is it, Harriet?" "The Night Court requests your attendance." "No." "I will pass your refusal on to the King of the Night. He is not fond of rejection." "Do what you wan" Lucretia slammed the door on Harriet's dumbfounded face. It would be so easy to return to the Night Court but Lucretia had made her decision. The world of night was her past. Even if it meant she had to handle hunters and Harriets alone, she would not return to that life of death.

Black text which reads - Lucretia moved in closer. "And what do you want now?" "I don't know anymore. I stand on a knife edge, between darkness and light. In the brilliance of my holy orders, I see depraved hunters who hunger for death, killing indiscriminately in the name of the righteous. Then I gaze into the darkness and I see you." His breathe grew heavier as he looked deep into her eyes. "I see an oasis of something genuine in a sea of death and brutality. I want to bathe in your waters and wash away my sins."

She sat up in bed and saw Loren standing before her, his face revealing the tempest in his mind but there was a softness behind it. "Hello Lucretia. I'm glad you're awake." He turned the lanterns up and placed a bottle and two glasses on the ramshackle table leaning against the corner of the room.

He held on as long as he could, straining as he watched her through shaking vision. When he was absolutely sure she had reached a safe distance, his head fell again. He let go. The deafening blast rang in Cheyna's ears. Brilliant white light flashed as a wave of heat exploded from Alrick before all was dark.

She left heading south into Terran land.” “I see. I’m starting to understand now. I think it's time for me to go.” She turned to leave, realising that Frost Wing could help her no further. “Wait.” “What.” “I don't know. I feel ashamed.” Kula had had enough. In a glare of light, she reverted back to her humanoid form and strode right up to the Owl Lord. “I think you should feel ashamed. You are the custodian of this place. Because you were remiss in your duties the rest of us have to pick up the pieces.” She barely held a snarl back. “I don't know who I can trust with the way things are. The Spirit Folk are splintering and the Mad God only stands to benefit from it. Yet here you sit in your hot spring, hiding away and telling yourself you can't do anything because the Terrans won't talk to you."

Each one's gaze abrasively sought her. She felt her skin prickle as each of the Mad God’s watchful eyes found their quarry in her. “I'm not afraid of you.” Cheyna's meek voice wavered. “Liar.” Laughter echoed all around amplified by the erratic movements of the deranged eyes. “You know you're not strong enough to contain me, Spirit Walker.” “That's not true.” “It is though. Your command of the wild powers is laughable. No more dangerous than branches swaying on a summer breeze.” Condescending laughter rippled out of the void. The crazed eyes blinked and shuddered. Cheyna steeled herself, pushing through her fears. “I am the coming storm, Mad God.” She growled through gritted teeth. “Such determination.” The eyes all around her shattered, fragments of illusion crashing to the ground.

She couldn't see anything, but felt arms wrap around her, guiding her away from the threat. Tumbling rock and stone thudded in onto the tiled floor, smashing it to vicious shards. Lucretia's vision was still a blur, but forms and colour were returning. "You saved me," she said distantly. "You would have done the same for me," Loren said. His voice was softer now. He still held her in his arms. "You... don't know that," she protested weakly but her heart wasn't in it. "Can you see, yet?" "No, it's still blurry." Crackling wings flapped in through the breach. She heard a sound that she loathed. Spectral screeching filled the air. "I hear necrovultures, Loren!"

That and saving the entire village from a viral blight. That kind of action makes it hard not to like her.”

Cheyna probably had the most recognisable face in the region and it was all thanks to the wanted posters hung everywhere. WANTED - DEAD OR ALIVE - GENEROUS REWARD Footsteps sounded out behind her as she ducked into the shadows of a run down backstreet.

Speeding up she skidded across the ice, closing in on him. “Summon the binding grass!” Shouted Kula. Cheyna shifted her stance, lowered her blade and with her off-hand summoned wild grass. It flowed in spectral, gossamer strands from just beyond her fingers. Her hand shot out in front of her, channelling everything she had into the magic. Ghostly tendrils swirled out towards Alrick, growing in size. Alrick whipped his vines, ready to block. He steeled his footing, bending his body, crouching low. Her wild magic surged, piercing the air between them.

He would read the night sky and when certain constellations aligned he would hold such opulent soirées.” Golden light swirled across the fox woman’s fur as a warm glow of nostalgia brought a gentle smile to her lips.
