We are river and catchment conservation experts; a UK & Ireland charity fighting for a cleaner, healthier and wilder rivers. Working with our 21 member trusts on the island of Ireland we create wild, healthy, natural rivers, valued by all.

The Owenkillew River in County Tyrone, Northern hosts one of the largest and most vital remaining populations of freshwater pearl mussels (Margaritifera margaritifera) in the region. This critically endangered species relies on a highly specialised habitat with good water quality to survive. They can live up to 100 years old; the adults are quite hardy but their young are very sensitive to environmental pressures - for example sedimentation & nutrient run off.
We explored Inch Wildfowl Reserve and surrounding wetlands, seeing the wealth of nature and biodiversity present in our wetlands. Inch Wildfowl reserve is a wetland complex with rivers streams fresher lake and ponds and tidal estuary, home to thousands of waterfowl, breeding waders, tern colonies and otters to name a few! We had a brilliant day
