This is Shamma. She was quite simply looking for a photo shoot in her current home, partly for her 40th birthday but also because her family are moving house soon and she wanted some extra memories from the house. It's really lovely that some people will approach simply to get some nice pictures of themselves rather than something commercial sometimes. She had a lovely house with beautiful panelling that they had done up themselves, her and her partner.

This was at the opening of Burga in Portsmouth. Simple shots of customers smiling can have a huge impact on social media in regards to setting the right feel for a place and getting reactions on social media itself. A lot of the time I have to shoot in burst mode to get those little micro expressions just right.

This is a photo from Mango Thai Tapas in Portswood. Mango is one of my favourite restaurants and a real gem in the Southampton food scene. They pioneered the Thai tapas format and are still thriving with it today. Their food is incredibly full of flavour and always so vibrant, which is why I always love photographing it. The textures and colours in Thai food in general are something that I will never say no to when considering photo shoots.

This is Wisnu. He was an Indonesian student who wanted some beautiful graduation pictures because his family couldn't make it over to the UK for his graduation. We did a great shoot in evening light and made use of both artificial light and the golden hour sky in combination.

The first style of photography I ever did in any commercial aspect, was nightclub photography, this was a Halloween event back in 2019, I became good at using an off camera flash in my left hand, held up high and to an angle, to create depth and energetic lighting to these images. This style of photography is the reason I owned a camera and a couple of lenses going into lockdown in 2020 and why I was able to branch into different styles once businesses started opening back up

A couple of years back when Orange Rooms in Southampton set up their Miami themed garden, which is out the back of the venue. There were some blue skies that day but the sunshine wasn't hitting the garden at that time of day, so I used my flash on a very tall stand to create sharper shadows and fake some sunlight hitting the set up. Confirmed: correct, the sun at the time of the day I was booked didn't hit the garden, so I faked it.

This was some items at Stakks Pancake House in Southampton. I always love the way that fried eggs look in food photography. One of my favourite items. This was quite an early shoot in my food photography career.

This was a bench inside a bathroom designed by Leisha Norman Interior Design. We popped back into this house a year after it had been designed to capture some images of it after being lived in. I positioned a lantern softbox inside the shower cubicle to the right of the image to introduce much nicer lighting. Spotlights in bathrooms do the job but for photos they don't have the right effect, so softer directional lighting helped instead.

This was a candid lifestyle image at Dancing Man Brewery in Southampton, a good example of the importance of shooting through objects and using foreground layering.
