Oof, I'm glad that's not what Nick ended up doing, because that Star Trek VI Enterprise bridge is just gorgeous and sexy as hell. For me it is THE epitome of film trek.
That's interesting because, essentially the budget protected him from himself as far as continuity-minded fans would've been concerned. If he had made that change it's likely his movie(s) would've been remembered at least a little differently.
And... This is why I am skeptical of the online received Wisdom of "Let people who aren't going to be SO precious about these genre IPs run wild with adapting these long running franchises". SOMEONE has to be in the mix who gets that by their very nature you can't color outside the lines much.
