I think it's correct here to note that voters in Middle America and the South don't see themselves reflected in the party. But I think it's also worth asking whether anyone anywhere sees themselves reflected in the party, whether that drives their votes or whether the party is just the lesser evil.

That is, yes, we should as a party be engaging voters in Middle America and the South. But we should also be engaging voters everywhere. And I would contend that the party does not actually engage with voters anywhere. I don't believe most voters see the party as having an articulable ideology.
