[1] : a podcast w/some ADs who went on a tear about how anti ai artists have huge egos and cant work on teams. That part annoyed me less when they justified this by correctly identifying "aura" as a problem in art ideas, pointed at walter benjamin, and then refused to engage with his material analysis
[2] : Did they mean the presence or absence of aura as a problem ?
[1] : genuinely i dont think they know. they start by dismissing artists [correctly] for pursuing aura as the value factor for art, but then immediately say they can "see the aura" in the automated art still. its just a misrepresentation and likely critical misunderstanding of the guy to defend owners
[2] : Feels like a take informed by their position & self-notion of authority/hierarchy. Like, ofc an AD wants the artists who won't push for their own vision & bend to their whims & deadlines, they want an 'aura' in the ML as it'd validate their perception of what the 'aura' should be & can control it
MLs being the technological pinnacle of reproduction antithetical to what an aura actually is won't matter : they need a moral justification for their hierarchical position through a form of exceptionalism that cannot be threatened like the artists under them are threatened by MLMs.
