Any time I see a parent bragging about how they taught their kid some life lesson or something I always take it with a grain of salt. Everyone is throwing a hundred ideas against the wall and maybe ten of them stick, who knows how or why.
Feel like a lot depends on age/temperament here, we try to teach our kid that making lots of noise won't get him what he wants. At the same time, sometimes you have to do things in a store and your kid is unhappy about it.
The only reason my siblings and I (four of us) behaved in public was because we were terrified of our dad, which, I would argue, is not a great strategy
Also it matters so much whether you're in an environment where a crying baby is appropriate. Which is honestly most environment. I welcome anyone who was never a crying baby to object to this.
very glad for the diminished expectations for my gender as I tell my daughter "I don't negotiate with terrorists, kid" and getting the entire produce aisle to break out in applause
Putting aside the efficacy of this approach, it must be nice to be able to simply go home whenever one is out with one's children rather than completing the errands one went out for.
I鈥檝e never met a parent who actually does this in real life but I鈥檓 not sure this instant response to any negative emotion expressed is going to teach them the right lessons
