Displayed is the modeled organic aerosol optical depth (a proxy of smoke reported as it would be seen by a satellite). Original data from ECMWF via CAMS and processed by nullearth.

Image from VIIRS instrument onboard of NASA's SNPP satellite, with a layer of the Aerosol Index (a proxy of smoke and dust) from the OMPS sensor in the same satellite. This parameters shows the presence of these aerosols in clear skies and above clouds.

Yellow and Red inidcate the presence of light absorbing pollution which in this case is smoke over N America and dust coming of Africa into the Atlantic. Note the vertical streaks are artifacts and not a geophysical observation.
