The Mist Galleries, annotated

Stone corridors narrow, the walls leaning as if they’re about to collapse. The air is damp and earthy, and water drip from a low ceiling in slow, echoing beats. Coffins gape open, bones scattered in disarray, and shadows shift and writhe—shapes that appear, then vanish. Somewhere ahead, something stirs. Too close, with nowhere to run.

This is it. The final act. The endgame. The last hurrah.
It’s going to be fun. And yes, maybe a little bit bonkers. Broken, even. You just have to lean into it sometimes. So long as your players are having a good time, don’t worry too much about the challenge level. Think of it like the end of a really good video game, where you’ve got pretty much everything you want for your character but you still want to go round the world smashing things up. ‘Just one more level.’
This is where the scale of the campaign becomes ridiculous. Mythic. If Tier Three was Star Wars, Tier Four is the MCU. The Material Plane is starting to feel small. Players want to leap between worlds, dreamscapes, voids—to hell and back, if that’s what it takes. They want to fight the biggest dragons that have ever lived. They want to punch the tarrasque in the face.
Tier Four is all about the finale—see the next page—but it’s also a chance to revel in the sheer nonsense of high-level play. The heroes are basically gods now. Let the world treat them like it.
