❤️ It’s not internalized homophobia to admit that navigating being a lesbian in this world is a scary thing sometimes. Living outside of what is deemed “acceptable” to society will always get you backlash. I’m so fortunate to live where I do and am by and large accepted, but not everyone is so lucky, and the religious trauma surrounding growing up queer in an extremely marriage and family focused religious remains an insidious shadow in my life.
❤️ I’m not (alas) a rich heiress, but I’ve always been open about having bipolar disorder. Alex’s story is very personal to me in that way, that of playing the medication game, therapy, and managing mood cycles. Bipolar can be ugly. Romanticizing it helps no one. But while it does put your life into hard mode, you CAN aspire to be something more.
❤️Terra’s story of loss, trauma, and overcoming isn’t, in the specific, something I’ve experienced, but I know people who have (and consulted them at length). But overcoming the types of trauma that can destroy you or remake you is a journey I know well.
