Dear Seann, The Maw does something most weird horror does not attempt because it is too difficult to pull off. It takes a premise so outlandish it should be funny, a human mouth the size of a car on the side of an abandoned mall, and makes it feel inevitable. The mouth is not the horror. The horror is what happens to the community around it: the way tragedy curdles into blame, the way boys perform loyalty to each other rather than living it, the way a small town already knows how to grow sick long before anything supernatural arrives to accelerate the process. That surrealism married to a deeply familiar realism is exactly what the best Stephen King does, and reviewers who have read both are saying so. "The Mouth remains open and unmoving, hungry and waiting. It calls, and one day soon, it will be answered." That closing line refuses to offer any comfort. It does not promise resolution. It promises inevitability. And that is exactly the mood weird horror readers are chasing when they go looking for something new. Here is what the book is currently lacking: The Maw has earned genuine critical enthusiasm from horror review blogs who are calling Seann a rising titan of the genre, but that enthusiasm has not been converted into the Goodreads Listopia placement where weird horror, kafkaesque horror, and Stephen King coming-of-age horror readers are actively discovering their next read. With It Came from the Floodwaters just out and Scurry teased as the next full novel, this is the ideal moment to consolidate the readership building across multiple novellas into a concentrated Goodreads presence for The Maw. Three services would change this immediately:

Lipstick Blurb: Rais, Louisiana is a quiet little town. It's a peaceful and friendly place. The woman with dragon's blood rode a great black stallion, snow crunching beneath his hooves. Her crimson hair was pulled back in a braid, and her golden eyes scanned the forest for any signs of danger. Behind her, a man with curly black hair rode on a mare. His face, clean-shaven for most of his life, now grew dark stubble which itched and bothered him continuously, such that he kept fidgeting in his saddle. "You need to stop that," said the dragonblooded woman, whose name was Nessalir. "It's distracting." "I am a son of Remura," replied her companion, the scholar Iarius. "We do not grow out our beards like Northern barbarians. I can't even recall the last time I went so long without shaving." "You'll get used to it." "Stars help me if that happens." Nessalir turned in her saddle and regarded the man. He was smaller than her, though this was far from unusual. Nessalir was a tall and well-muscled woman, and even the mightiest of warriors could often seem small in comparison. She watched as Iarius rubbed at his chin and pointedly did not look at her, and she smirked. The Remurans were a strange people. They boasted one of the greatest empires the world had ever known, and yet a little bit of chin hair was enough to cause them such strife. Nessalir did not see why his sparse beard should bother Iarius so--certainly it made him appear more like a man and less like a boy. She imagined that his complaints would die down once they spent some time in town; many were the women of the Northern Lands who would appreciate a well-spoken and educated man who did not resemble a child. But such things would have to wait for now.
