It's Arctic Sea Ice Day! Sea ice is so much more than a frozen platform of water. When sea ice freezes, the salt is pushed out into brine channels that house algae (brown stuff in ice core). That is the powerhouse of the Arctic ecosystem, the base of the food chain. Without ice, there is no Arctic.
