Happy #WorldSnakeDay! Narcisse, Manitoba, Canada is home to the largest seasonal concentration of snakes in the world. Every year, upwards of 50,000 red-sided garter snakes congregate there to hibernate in limestone caves below the frost line. It's the largest of several hibernacula the region. 🐍🌿

OMG I never thought that the snake pit scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark could ever happen in nature… BTW ❤️ garter snakes!

Thank you! Fixed📌 in my personal map of the places never to be visited in my lifetime! I'd rather be in company of all the wolves and bears in Canada than of those 50,000 snakes!!!😱😞

A child I taught once created the collective noun 'a spaghetti of snakes'. Perfect for one of those pics.

Awww! And because I had to look it up just now: they travel up to ELEVEN MILES from their summer grounds to their hibernation spot. (Garter snakes were my friends when I was a child)

Frickin' amazing!!

I love garter snakes! I have many on my property in Ontario, and am very careful about cutting grass etc to make sure I don't run over any. They reciprocate by eating the voles that chew on my vegetable garden😃

Garter snakes are so good and so underrated

I love all snakes... We have several garter snake types here in north Idaho. I call the really small ones yard noodles.

First picture: "How many pictures of me is she going to take?! I should turn it about and take some of her, see how SHE likes it. If I only had a phone. And arms."

My son loved summers in TN lifting up rocks and debris finding these. He loves them.

Thank you for posting these cool pics and interesting facts. Do you have information on how the fires effect them?
