The FBI joined Humboldt County investigators Tuesday in a new search at Miranda’s Rescue, the Northern California animal sanctuary where authorities say hundreds of dogs remain unaccounted for. A search warrant authorized excavation of the site “in an effort to locate additional deceased animals.”

Investigators first searched the property May 1 and seized evidence. A search warrant affidavit later said investigators had recovered eight dead dogs from the property, some of which appeared to have been shot in the head.
