Eighty years ago, Stelco workers walked off the job and onto the picket line, standing together for fairness, dignity, and a voice at work. The gains won through that strike helped lay the foundation for many of the rights and protections that workers rely on today. Earlier in the day, I was proud to join @nrinder_ward3 and members of USW Local 1005 to unveil commemorative street signs at the intersection of Industrial Drive and Wilcox Street, marking the 80th anniversary of the strike and ensuring this important chapter of Hamilton's history remains visible for generations to come."

I (white sweater, black gloves) cross from the SW corner of Dundas Street and Victoria Street to the NW corner. A smaller, white bus makes a left turn from northbound Victoria St. to westbound Dundas St., coming centimetres from colliding with me. The video replays thirty seconds in but in a wide lens. This speaks to the car-centric ontology of Downtown Toronto, where pedestrians make up a majority of the road users, but cars are given a majority of the space. This would not happen under pedestrianisation that successful cities have.

CLAIM: "Mail delivery times will double and people will have to walk farther for mail." FACT: 77% of Canadians already receive mail through community, apartment, or rural mailboxes. Any transition would be gradual, supported by parcel lockers, tracking tools, and accessibility accommodations, with little to no change for most households. CLAIM: "Seniors, people with disabilities, and rural communities are being abandoned." FACT: Canada Post's delivery accommodation program continues to support over 30,000 seniors and Canadians with disabilities. Rural, Northern, and Indigenous communities will continue to receive uninterrupted service. Canada Post is not closing and mail delivery is not ending. Claims to the contrary are misinformation. But the service needs to be modernized. Currently Canada Post is losing S10 million every day. Letter mail has fallen more than 60% from 5.5 billion pieces annually to about 2 billion.
