As a charity we recognise that military personnel often spend long periods away from home and that the emotional effect of this can be heightened upon returning home if they are unable to see their children. We actively work alongside other veterans’ organisations to ensure that our military families are supported at these times to allow them to make the best amicable arrangements for their children. We’re proud to be able to offer free participation to our New Ways For Families and Love Loss & Living courses to help support those who serve or have served”
6. They take your instruction - They’re able to take a detached view of your relationship with your children whilst also being understanding - They have a key role in ensuring your understanding of their advice so you can make informed decisions You can help by: - Listening to the advice and using it well, even if you dislike it - take time to consider the advice - Taking notes of what you discussed so that you can read them again later on, with a clear head in a calm environment - Be mindful that your Lawyer has more experience of these processes than you do
5. They manage your expectations - They communicate any significant developments promptly - Your Lawyer should respond to letters, emails and telephone calls within an appropriate timeframe You can help by: - Keeping your Lawyer informed of significant events or changes in circumstances - it’s your responsibility to communicate new information to them - Your first meeting is crucial: prepare a brief summary of your situation to help you both focus - A good general rule is to allow 2 weeks between instructing your Lawyer to do something and expecting a response.
4. They move your case forward - They keep things moving, not only in court but also towards negotiation in some cases. - Lawyers have a duty to not take on more cases than they can effectively work on - As a client you should have confidence that your case is steadily moving forward. You can help by: - Listening to the advice and using it well, even if you dislike it - take time to consider the advice - Taking notes of what you discussed so that you can read them again later on, with a clear head in a calm environment - Be mindful that your Lawyer has more experience of these processes than you do
