For example, President Obama gave a fairly provocative, wide-ranging speech on democracy, authoritarianism, and our political moment. That speech happened barely a month ago at Hamilton College. It is freely available online. I doubt readers who want Obama to “speak up” saw it. That is to my point — he has spoken. Did you hear him and did it move the needle?
