Physical Health
Since FWA last year, we’ve been struggling a lot with fatigue, frequently been short of breath after mild exertion, rarely gotten a restful night’s sleep, and struggled to focus on cognitively demanding tasks like writing. We never tested positive for COVID after the con, but it matches up pretty well with descriptions of Long COVID that others have reported. Some days we’re feeling well enough to write for a bit before we need to nap; other days we struggle to get out of bed or think about anything more complex than scrolling on our phone. To help with this, we’ve recently bought a treadmill so we can get more regular physical activity, in the hopes we can rebuild some baseline health.

More recently, we’ve had some gastrointestinal issues. We’ll spare y’all the unpleasant details, but we were in such pain on New Year’s that we had to go to the emergency room. Combined with previous things, we’re getting surgery on Monday (February 23) that will hopefully improve things. While the only restriction imposed will be no heavy lifting for six weeks, the doctor also said it’s routine for them to give doctor’s notes for two weeks off work because the recovery itself can be exhausting. That is to say, if it goes well, we won’t truly be back to 100% until April, and there will likely be several days where we won’t be able to do much more than eat and sleep. Hopefully this will be worth it.

Also, this year marks us being 40 years old and 25 years in the furry fandom. So we’re very much a greymuzzle now, with all the aches and pains that come from decades of bad habits.
