Press release that reads "This Thursday, in Washington, D.C., Governor Gretchen Whitmer will deliver a major speech in the nation’s capitol, laying out her vision to working with both parties and federal officials to build America’s manufacturing might and protect our national defense. Afterwards, she will sit down for a fireside chat with Gretchen Carlson to discuss the proposals and strategy behind the vision. In her address, the governor will outline her bipartisan approach to bring supply chains home from China, create more good-paying jobs, and invest in our defense industry."

Polls found a majority of Michiganders ultimately supported the move, nor do voters blame her for the roads’ sorry state. And Whitmer has been campaigning on the boast that roads are being fixed “without raising taxes one cent.”

Once that bond money is spent, however, there’s nothing in place to replace it, meaning there remains no long-term solution for Michigan’s underfunded infrastructure.

Whitmer said she would “absolutely” push for a long-term infrastructure funding in a second term, but again didn’t want to talk specifics.

She did however nix another try at raising the gas tax, deeming it an “outdated mode” of infrastructure funding in a world slowly moving toward electric vehicles.

“I’m going to work with the industry and the leaders in the legislature and we’re going to work on, come up with a plan together,” she said. “Me dictating (a proposal) before we even know who those leaders are, I think would set us up for failure
