Hello, Iā€™m reaching out to let you know about a security incident that resulted in the email address and phone number from your Substack account being shared without your permission. Iā€™m incredibly sorry this happened. We take our responsibility to protect your data and your privacy seriously, and we came up short here. What happened. On February 3rd, we identified evidence of a problem with our systems that allowed an unauthorized third party to access limited user data without permission, including email addresses, phone numbers, and other internal metadata. This data was accessed in October 2025. Importantly, credit card numbers, passwords, and financial information were not accessed. What we are doing. We have fixed the problem with our system that allowed this to happen. We are conducting a full investigation, and are taking steps to improve our systems and processes to prevent this type of issue from happening in the future. What you can do. We do not have evidence that this information is being misused, but we encourage you to take extra caution with any emails or text messages you receive that may be suspicious. This sucks. I'm sorry. No matter how much they give in return they can never love each fan on an intimate, personal level. And the fan cannot return this love, for they are interacting with a persona, irrespective of how close to the true-self it may be... it is still a fabricated reality that serves to maintain the idols supreme status and power. Parasocial relationships are the result of an intersection of commodity and artist, parasocial relationships are the final stage of the long arm of mass culture that cranks the idol machine. Each fan becomes one with the arm, believing themselves to be in control over their own destiny. Each fan keeps the machine churning so that, at some point, the idol need not. Parasocial is the persona of capitalism, the smiling face of a commodified romance with the eyes, nose, lips, skin, teeth and hair of your favourite idol, ready and able to sell you a one way ticket to their heart. Parasocial is where the strictly political realm ends, for it is here that the parasocial gives birth to a new experience: idol limerence. This is the personal lived-experience of the idol process, felt deeply by the unsuspecting fan in a variety of ways. Shown by how fans like Echo could bypass parasocial and go straight to idol limerence, none of this process is linear. However, it is still parasocial that maintains idol limerence. Even though Echo did not experience a parasocial relationship at first, she will soon come to once she engages with the ARMY fandom more regularly; this is what will maintain her limerent state, even when she wants it to stop. In the same vein, not all of the characteristics have to be experienced in order for this phenomena, idol limerence, to be present in one's life. Only one need be felt, experienced, that is an unwavering love for an idol.ā€
