These customizable feeds let you combine some of your existing feeds, into one. This can help reduce the number of columns you need on Skydeck while not losing anything!

So looking at the previous screencap, you can see in the upper left corner there's a little + icon. Clicking that, takes you into another menu to begin adding a new column. In the lower right corner is the option we'll be using "Mixed Feeds". Click on that to begin creating your new customized feed.
