Salt Lake City, UT - We celebrate today's Third District Court ruling that the legislature's gerrymandered congressional maps violate Proposition 4. This is what democracy looks like - voters passed Prop 4, and the court enforced the law. Utah is now on the frontlines of a national fight for fair maps. While other states gerrymander to lock in partisan advantage, Utah voters chose a different path with Prop 4. The people spoke. The court agreed. Fair maps are coming. We stand ready to ensure all Salt Lake County residents get the representation they deserve.
Thank you! I'm excited to share that I've accepted the role of Executive Director of the Utah Democratic Party, starting in September! Our Party is steady, united, and charging toward Election Day. I'll continue serving as County Chair through the November election to keep our momentum strong and to support our candidates and our team. After Election Day, we'll hold a special election for the next County Chair, and I know we have incredible leaders ready to step up. Salt Lake County Democratic Party, ADAMS MUST GO: SLCO Democratic Chair Demands Resignation Over Child Rape Case Interference Salt Lake City, UT - Salt Lake County Democratic Party Chair Jade Velazquez released the following statement following reporting in the Salt Lake Tribune that Senate President Stuart Adams used his position of power to influence a criminal case where his relative was accused of child rape. "Stuart Adams has shattered the public trust, when a top elected official rewrites child rape laws to shield his own family from justice, he has crossed a line that cannot be uncrossed. Utah families deserve leaders who fight FOR victims, not against them. Adams has proven he cannot be trusted with that responsibility. He must resign. Today."
