I went to Renaissance Weekend with him in the Colbert Report era. I don’t think I actually met him. But at the time, it was a rare opportunity to see him not playing “Stephen Colbert.”
It was later revealed that the piece had been passed around the Daily Show offices. At a television critics awards event years later, Carell performed a dramatic reading of the review, as if it had been written by one of them and not a law student on a random blog.
