SNES Central @snescentral.com · May 4 Square showed an early version of Chrono Trigger at the 1994 Shoshinkai. It appears that they might have originally planned to have a four character party. Alternatively, one robot is attacking Chrono, I don't know. This is from the January 1995 issue of Nintendo Power.

To me it looks like Crono, Lucca, and Ayla fighting generic robots in the future. Of course that ended up being Robo in the final game and he now looks different from the other robots you fight
