It takes an enormous amount of work and support to get very good at something. Tools of course make a difference. Investment of time and money from one’s own self and the supporters. It’s a tunnel with little room for looking beyond — contextualization becomes difficult with such a limited perspective. Such intensity and focus are difficult for many to understand. This is definitely something I struggle with even today between my Korean culture & North American environment and lifestyle. It gets quite noisy to concentrate in an ultra-hustling, hyper-competitive environment, where every move is being watched and judged by everyone in one’s immediate community; on the other hand, an intense pursuit of a singular objective in a culture unused to it can make one feel like the proverbial falling tree in a forest with no one to hear. Both extreme noise and extreme silence (more like white noise) can be deafening. What keeps a pursuit and a practice worthwhile is the discovery of what lies beyond the noise/silence, to truly meet with what lies within. Somehow, the inner world accessed through such challenges is large and infinite, a true liberation, albeit temporary. Once there, and back there again, again and again, you can meet others on a similar journey. A singular quality, a true satisfaction, a reverberant signal reaching long and far — a quiet place, where we, the rhizomes, find out that we were never alone in the tunnel; we were next to each other, and now with the recognition of the individual and collective journeys, we can contribute together to bring nourishment to our collective tree. And so life renews and sustains itself. We are circular breathing, together. I love you and am grateful for your life, which keeps mine alive with such quiet brightness. Big hugs all 💗🙏🌿
