If I go and use NSIDC’s Charctic Interactive Sea Ice Graph, nsidc.org/arcticseaice..., I can see how this year’s sea ice extent compares to the previous decades. It’s interesting to see that there’s a clear move from more extensive sea ice to less, and that this year’s extent is not the worse.

The Antarctica situation is even worse, where we are seeing a record low for sea ice extent. And the old record is being beaten by quite a bit, at least to my eyes. Again, details are provided by NASA’s Earth Observatory: earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/15187...
